Jean Pierre and Pauline, May 2019
We arrived on the day of our 50th wedding anniversary and a week later we are still going strong. How could we not in such an idyllic place?
We loved watching the wildlife but never got up early enough to go out and see the deer in the woods over the bridge.
Thank you for everything Rachel. The cottage is perfect.

The Stable is newly done up with beautiful decor, amazingly comfortable beds and great attention to detail. I found all the little essentials of life that other holiday cottages never seem to have. Even good books and toys for children. I also have particular needs with a manual wheelchair but again everything was perfect – lovely smooth wood and tiled floors, no changes of floor level and choice of bath or shower. Heaven! We had a lovely four days visiting grandchildren in the snow (the lane was a little difficult just after a heavy snow shower but was salted and cleared quickly). It was the perfect place to watch the snow – warm and cosy, with French doors looking out on trees and hills. Rachel and her family were extremely friendly and helpful, and we will be returning soon.

Our whole stay from initial contact with Rachel to saying goodbye was just wonderful. We booked a four night break and it was everything we needed post new year. Rachel was prompt in dealing with our enquires and really on the ball with travel arrangement. The cottage was exactly as described – very well equipped and beautifully decorated. It was warm and bright and very homely. For those who don’t know – a wonderful area with historic and beautiful Alnwick on your doorstep and only minutes to the famous Northumbrian coast. Attractions galore at all times of year. In 40 plus years of self catering holidays this is in the top one!”
Rachel met us on arrival and set the tone for a great stay. Easy to find (just follow Rachel’s clear directions) The Granary is a spacious and very well maintained place situated down a short lane and along the River Aln. Comfy bed, modern kitchen and super comfy living space. Take the walk down the river towards the castle for a lovely taste of the local flora and fauna right from the door. Thanks Rachel, loved it and I expect that we’ll be back!
Paul and Sarah, November 2018
The granary is a stylishly but sensitively converted, sprucely maintained and well appointed space in a wonderful location that’s both very close to the town but allows you to walk out the front door straight into rolling countryside… with the River Aln less than a hundred yards away. Rachel was hugely helpful in helping us plan for our trip beforehand, waited for us at the Granary even though traffic meant we were much, much later than expected, and delighted us with a number of welcoming touches that I won’t share here because it would spoil the surprise. My twentysomething children were similarly impressed. Couldn’t fault it. And would go back again
Mark and family, September 2018
The cottage is fab and the decoration and position both wonderful.
We have had a brilliant time and enjoyed our stay here at the Byre.
It is the little touches which set it above the rest. Definitely ‘Gold standard’. We shall hopefully return some time in the future.
Wendy and Carl Lincoln 13-20th July 2018
This is a beautiful relaxing home set in beautiful countryside but close to all local amenities.
Rachel is the perfect host & you have everything you could possibly need.
We can’t recommend this place enough and stay here again. Jean and David 8-14 May 2018
Absolutely exemplary, one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in. Everything we could ask for is found within the cottage.
Rachel couldn’t have been nicer and more welcoming. There was plenty of room for our 2 y.o. To run and play. The location is perfect to explore the area, we thorougly enjoyed our days at Alnwick castle and gardens, Cragside and Bamburgh – all made our little ones sad to leave x
The Farmer Family- Leeds April 2018
If there is one place we don’t mind getting snowed in, it’s this one. We didn’t even manage to get to Alnwick but that wasn’t a problem. This is a great and very child friendly place and Rachel has been very kind and thoughtful throughout. Thank you so much. Definitely recommend to others. Sad to leave.
The Williams family, Doncaster, March 2018
This is a great venue for a fabulous stay in the area. The converted barn had lovely touches; it was stylish, extremely clean, beautifully renovated and furnished to a very high standard and quality. It is a very peaceful and harmonious place with lovely use of colour, quality of furnishings and all of the extra touches that made it a very special place. It included everything you could possibly want for a very relaxing holiday, Rachel was extremely helpful and welcoming. Thank you

We had such a lovely stay at Rachel’s place. The photos don’t fully show how much love has gone into the place and it really felt like home. It was also larger than I was expecting with lots of space to lounge. It’s in a peaceful location with big picture windows yet very close to lots of interesting places. Would highly recommend for a short or longer stay, could easily have stayed for a week or more!

“Things we loved at the Byre: Spotlessly clean in all rooms. The Nespresso machine! The large bath. The views over the garden and views from the bedroom and bathroom over the countryside. How close it is to Alnwick….perfect for a weekend away. The quiet location. The high quality tasteful decor in all rooms, beautiful! Rachel’s communications were quick and helpful. We had a great weekend, would highly recommend it, and hope to come back!”
Martino and Beth, Leeds
Thank you for a lovely stay in a beautiful setting. The Byre was cosy with everything we could possibly have wanted including a great bath tub! The walk to the Alnwick Castle grounds over the bridge and along the river was lovely – great autumn colours. We enjoyed crossing onto Holy Island and seeing Oystercatchers and Sand-pipers at Alnmouth beach. Barter books was also great. This was our first trip to Northumberland and we will definately be back!
Anya and Ryad, Leeds and Glasgow November 2017
It has been a marvellous time for us to explore Northumberland for the first time, and return every evening to this beautiful cottage. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we would love to return some day soon.
